Members of Aono Jikken Ensemble and Blue World
celebrated Floating Leaves Teahouse's one year anniversary. Susie Kozawa, Mike Shannon
(previously of Blue World) and Esther Sugai of AJE joined with Blue World vocalist Lezlie
Vincent and
percussionist Dean Moore (who also performs with AJE). The last time
we all performed together was eleven years ago in 1995 at the Black Citroen.

Northwest Film Forum's A Man, A
Blade, An Empty Road: The Summer of Samurai film
series, AJE performed new improvisations inspired by classic Japanese chanbara
(swordplay) films that were projected during the performance. This was
part of Excavations in the Floating
World: Japanese-Language Cinemas in Seattle, an evening of informal presentations,
reminiscence and chat about Seattle's late and lamented Toyo and Kokusai
movie houses which played all manner of Japanese films, including many great
samurai pictures, during their heyday.
